The authors, health and nutrition experts connected with the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), offer tips for selecting, handling, storing, and preparing safe and healthy food. They suggest ways for the educated consumer to help bring about reforms and improve government regulations for safer food. They also cite extensive scientific studies including CSPI's "Nutrition Action Healthletter." There is some overlap of material with Geri Harrington's Real Food, Fake Food ( LJ 5/15/87), though this has a different format and is more current. The general reader and informed layperson will like this book. Recommended for public libraries and popular nutrition collections. (Index not seen.)
