Greg lives in Roseburg, Oregon with Barbara (Bobbie) and their son Chandler. He works as a Soil Scientist for the Umpqua National Forest. The Orton family work together along with climbing partner Harold Hall instructing climbing classes for Umpua Community College. Greg has 26 years of climbing experience and has been actively climbing in western Oregon for the past 16 years. He says he began climbing in the Eastern Sierra, however his mother tells a story of a panicked neighbor coming over one morning because a 2-year old was sitting on top the roof. His mother decided the safest thing at that point was to teach Greg to down-climb. He considers his favorite western Oregon climbs to be The Peregrine Traverse (.7), HangTen (.10a), The Newt (.10c), and Black Magic (.10d).
