A parent who acts as a child's coach may be intimidated by the task, which entails teaching the basics of the sport, stressing issues of safety, and combining hard work with fun. This guide, aimed at parents who plan to teach tennis to children ages four to nine, is a lifesaver. The book's introductory chapter on child behavior is particularly helpful. The only false step in this otherwise useful guide to parental involvement and volunteerism occurs in the final chapter, where--in contradiction to the book's premise--various for-profit instruction programs are detailed. Nevertheless, this book will be a welcome addition to public libraries located in communities with tennis facilities.
