About the Author:

Romulus Linney is the author of three novels, thirteen long and twenty-two short plays which have been seen over the past twenty-five years in resident theatres across the United States as well as in London and Vienna. He is the recipient of many national awards, grants, and prizes and lives in New York City.

Linney is a playwright with an uncanny ear for a wide variety of dialog styles. Each play, whether set in the Ozarks, medieval Spain, Japan, Stalinist Russia, a sleazy San Francisco bar, or a nursing home, exhibits a style that is exactly appropriate. His subject is usually the conflict of extremes, which might easily yield melodrama, but in Linney's hands the narrative unfailingly reaches the telling tragicomic moment. Extremes of age or culture are common. Often, the conflict is between historically ac curate but imaginatively re-created characters, such as King Philip, the poet Akhmatova, or the players in a trial of faith during the Spanish Inquisition. These are little gems of playwrighting of the highest order. Recommended for most drama collections.
