About the Author
Harold Holmquest is a retired petroleum geologist who became interested in the Civil War while working in Jackson, Mississippi. There he visited the Vicksburg, Shiloh, Chattanooga, and Chickamauga battlefields. At Vicksburg he found his great-great-uncle's name on one of the plaques in the Illinois monument. This relative had joined the Union Army in Chicago. As a geologist, maps have always been an interest, so to better understand the progress of the war, he developed a month-by-month atlas to document the war's progression during the four years. The present work evolved from this career interest in maps and the newly acquired passion for the Civil War.
Holmquest is active in the Houston, Texas Civil War Roundtable.
