Tom Frye is a resident of Lincoln, Nebraska. As a youth he grew up in Havelock, a section of Lincoln in which the story takes place. There, as he would put it, he was "always walkin' on the wrong side of the fence." Whether it was trouble at home, trouble at school, trouble on the streets, he always seemed to find it.But now, ironic as it all may seem, he spends his time working with the same kinds of kids: those in trouble. Now, compared to the days of his youth when he did time in the detention home, has worked as a juvenile care specialist in a detention facility, a volunteer probation officer, recreation supervisor, a teacher's assistant, a single foster parent, and a liaison between kids and cops in the Havelock area. For the past five years he has been a private contractor with the Department of Social Services working with truant, delinquent, and high-risk youth.Scratchin' on the Eight Ball is Tom's first book.
