Synopsis
The Teacher's Guide for Word Building contains step-by-step lessons for each pattern, instructions for teaching decoding strategies, placement and progress monitoring assessments, and guidelines for setting up a Response to Intervention program. Although each decoding pattern and skill is reinforced in the worktext, a generous listing of carefully selected children s books that might be used to reinforce patterns is provided in this guide. Rhymes, verses, and songs that might be used to reinforce the patterns are contained in Appendix D. These are printed on backline masters so they can be readily copied and used for additional reinforcement. Suggestions for spelling and writing are also featured.

About the Author
Thomas G. Gunning has a doctorate in the Psychology of Reading from Temple University. He is the Former Chairperson, Professor Emeritus, Reading Department, Southern Connecticut State University. He is currently Adjunct Professor, Reading/ Language Arts Department, Central Connecticut State University.
