Synopsis

The book in which renowned author/illustrator Vera B. Williams made her illustrating debut offers young readers a celebratory look at their own special place in the world. Charlip's poetry sparkles while Williams's world of colorful people perfectly captures the joy that comes when we are free to be ourselves. This is a great book to share with children who are just starting to wonder who they are in relation to others.

Reviews

Back in print with new cover art and a fresh design, the 1975 Hooray For Me! by Remy Charlip and Lilian Moore will transport readers back to the "me" decade. Vera B. Williams's watercolors depict dancing people of all colors-yellow, brown, even green and blue-celebrating themselves and their family relationships: phrases like "I am my big sister's baby brother" and "I am my cousin's cousin," painted in wild colors, are part of the pictures. New page borders by Williams add to the psychedelic effect.

Ages 4^-7. Larger and livelier than the original (1975) book, which has been out of print, this version of Hooray for Me! gives an old favorite a new look. An upbeat cover illustration invites readers. Inside, new patterned borders in popsicle colors frame and enlarge the pages, and shinier paper gives the artwork a bright glow. A good choice for primary-grade units focusing on children and their relationships. Carolyn Phelan
