Worldwide, millions of computer users regard Dr. Kris Jamsa as one of the leading experts and authors in the industry. He is the author of over 95 books covering a wide range of topics in computer technology, security, graphics, networking, and programming. Kris received his bachelor's degree in computer science from the United States Air Force Academy. During his tenure in the Air Force, Dr. Jamsa worked as a VAX/VMS system manager, overseeing computer hardware, software and network security. He received his Master's Degree in computer science from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and his doctorate in computer science with an emphasis on operating systems from Arizona State University. In 1997, Dr. Jamsa earned an MBA degree from San Diego State University.
Since I am in the computer business, I regularly get calls for help from friends and relatives. Being a basically nice guy, I help out where I can, even when my paying clients are also yelling for help. After all, I can hardly tell my mother to take her PC in to the repair shop without my even looking at it. However, after reading and using Kris Jamsa's new book, I am looking forward to some extra leisure time. Dr. Jamsa packs an amazing amount of information into less than 300 pages. This book serves very well for upgrades (making your PC run better) and repairs (making your PC run, period). He begins by telling the reader they can indeed fix or upgrade their PC and then proves it. The book is carefully organized. Everything from installing a surge suppresser to upgrading your hard drive is covered. The tone is light, but the instructions are detailed and clear. Simple drawings (preferable to photographs) cover every step. Separate text boxes outline each task for those in a hurry, while the detailed descriptions are there for those of us that want to know all the facts. You may not care that CMOS stands for "complimentary metal oxide semiconductor," but you had better know how to fix your CMOS batteries when they die. I now have all my birthday and Christmas shopping done for my PC user friends. Upgrading Your PC may not seem to be a very exciting present, but Mom will thank me in the end. I can hear my phone not ringing now. -- From Independent Publisher
