About the Author

AMBROSE BIERCE was one of the leading American muckraking journalists and humorists of the 19th century. He was also a Union officer and war hero in the Civil War, and he wrote a number of short stories based on his experiences, including his best known fictional work, "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge." His best known non-fiction work is "The Devil's Dictionary."

CHAZ BUFE is the author of "Alcoholics Anonymous: Cult or Cure?," "An Understandable Guide to Music Theory: The Most Useful Aspects of Theory for Blues, Rock, and Jazz Musicians," and "The American heretic's Dictionary." He is the co-author of "Resisting 12-Step Coercion: How to Fight Forced Participation in AA, NA, or 12-Step Treatment" (with Stanton Peele and Archie Brodsky) and "Exercises for Individual and Group Development" (with Dale DeNunzio). Bufe is also the compiler/editor of "The Heretic's Handbook of Quotations" and the translator of "Cuban Anarchism: The History of a Movement" (by Frank Fernandez). Bufe's journalistic work has appeared in periodicals as diverse as "The Utne Reader," "Communities," "Eye," and "Processed World."
