About the Author
Pat Lessie lives in Amherst, Massachusetts, with her husband, Tom. They have three adult children. While the children were growing, she used her biology education by working in laboratories. She teaches fifth and sixth graders.

A mighty lion in his lair slept peacefully without a care. In fact, he dreamed of family feasts on antelopes and wildebeests. Abruptly ending Lion's doze, a mouse ran right across his nose. The lion, jarred, slammed down his paw, and when he looked beneath, he saw the little mouse, quite dazed and scared. Yet, hoping that he might be spared, the mouse, who had an active mind, entreated, "If you were so kind to let me go upon my way, it just might be that I'd repay your act of kindness. It could be that sometime you'd need help from me.
