The protagonist of Slaughter's latest is discombobulated by his brother's death at the hand of police. Charley Harding doesn't fault the cops, though: he blames the dealers who furnished drugs to his heroin-addicted teenaged brother. In this credibility-stretching plot, Charley vows revenge, bluffs his way into meeting pushers, persuades a sympathetic narc to help him, and escapes death several times through luck and/or intuition. Scenarios and characters straight out of 1930s gangster movies provide unintentional chuckles in an otherwise humorless narratives. Hokey plot, then, and shallow characters; not recommended.
