This is the only mother-daughter book that is interactive, providing an invitation and guidance for mothers and daughters to create their own letter, transforming and deepening their relationships. As opposed to the other competing mother-daughter books from HarperCollins and Doubleday this season, Letters to Our Daughters is composed of authentic letters from ordinary people expressing genuine feelings.
Letters to Our Daughters began almost fifteen years ago, although wee were unaware of it at the time. That was the beginning of our lives as mothers. Throughout the years we have shared many things. The greatest of these, however, is the love and passion we have for our children. We have often marveled at the unconditional love we feel for our daughters, at its depth and intensity unlike any other we have experienced. We began to wonder what other mothers would say about their feelings for their daughters. We began to envision a book that would celebrate the relationship between mother and daughter. It was a throughout that sprang forth on its own, presenting itself as an idea whose time had come, a gift ready to be shared by mothers and daughters everywhere. When we began, we didnt know about the journey that lay ahead and the women we would be privileged to meet along the way. We began to connect with people and communities we might not normally touch in our everyday lives. But we quickly realized that we were not strangers; we stood on the common ground of love. The letters varied greatly, but love, commitment, hopes, and dreams were present in each one. This project seems to have touched so many lives, but none more than ours. Our hope for you, our readers, is that you will be drawn in and comforted by feelings that resemble your own and that you will answer the call to write your own letter. There is much in the world that seeks to divide us. It is our hope that this book will unite and inspire all who read it.
