About the Author

Joe R. Lansdale is the author of over 200 short stories, articles and essays, as well). as thirteen novels, and 7 short story collections. Pie has also edited or co edited 7 anthologies five fiction, two non-fiction. Among his novels are MUCHO MOJO, A New York Times Notable Book, The Two Bear Mambo, Cold In July, Savage Season, Bad Chili, Rumble Tumble, and most recently, Freezer Burn. His most famous short story collections are BY BIZARRE HANDS, writer of The Purple Rage, Electric Gumbo, The Lansdale Reader, and a unique illustrated collection of his work titled Atomic Chili, The Illustrated Joe R.. Lansdale.

His better known anthologies are Razored Saddles, edited with Pat LoBruto, and the ground breaking "comic" anthology Weird Business, edited with Rick flaw. He has scripted teleplays for the animated Batman series, sold numerous options and screenplays to film, and has written for comics, including the award winning D.C. Jonah Hex series, Two Gun Mojo, and Riders of The Worm and Such. He also scripted IT CRAWLS, the comic that revived the Lone Ranger, for Topps. Dark Horse gave him his own comic book series, JOE R. LANSDALE S BY BIZARRE HANDS, and Joe R. Lansdale S Dead in The West Comics. His most recent graphic novel is from Mojo Press, an odd Western, Red Range.

He has won numerous awards for his work, four Bram Stokers, the British Fantasy Award, the American Mystery Award, the Horror Critics Award, The Shot In The Dark International Crime Writer s award, A New York Times Notable Book, The Booklist Editor s Award, The Critic s Choice Award, and others. He lives in Nacogdoches, Texas with his wife Karen, their two children and a pack of dogs.

"Joe R. Lansdale's certainly a modern legend himself, having been around for some time now. But comics artist Saam Glanzman's got an even more legendary historical grounding, having been professionally drawing for six decades or so. These two worthies have collaborated on Lansdale's graphic novel series, Red Range. The 1937 N.C. Wyeth cover painting strikes a chord of tranquil calm - the last time that mood appears in the book.

The first page of Red Range itself begins full tilt with graphic ultraviolence as Lansdale and Glanzman plunge us into a 19th century Klan lynching of a black Texas family. Abruptly in the midst of the atrocity, the Kluxers are interrupted by a mysterious rider who's a deadly shot with both his pistols and long-range Sharps buffalo rifle. It's the feared and hated (by the KKK, at least) Red Mask, a tough, lethal, black man who wisely keeps his identity concealed..... Writer Lansdale's unerring ear for exotic period and regional dialog remains constant. His penchant for grim humor appears throughout.
