Synopsis

About the Author
J. Nigel Ellis, Ph.D., PE, CPE, CSP, has served on many national standards committees on fall protection including ANSI Z359.1--Personal Fall Arrest Systems, and ANSI A10.32--Fall Protection Equipment in Construction. He is past chairman of the Fall Protection Group of the Industrial Safety Equipment Association. In addition, he has authored the chapter on fall protection in Best's Safety Directory since 1973.
Dr. Ellis has testified at OSHA hearings on fall protection in the oil and gas drilling and servicing industries, power platforms used for exterior building maintenance, and in construction, confined space entry, and steel erection. He helped develop the Occupational Safety and Health Adminstration's standards on fall protection and emergency descent.

Industrial falls are the number one cause of on-site, occupational fatalities in the United States today. Yet personal fall protection is the most underdeveloped safety program resource in the country.
There are two types of elevated fall exposure: during work and during access or exit. Fall hazards are not always obvious. Fall protection must be planned; it cannot be done on the spur of the moment. This edition is for those striving for effective fall protection.
