Out of Body has been called a gay Ground Hog Day because Chadwick's life keeps starting over and over but that's where the comparison ends. Each day in Chadwick's life is vastly different from the prior day, and; unlike Ground Hog Day, nothing in Out of Body is funny.

Ron Ehemann graduated from Chicago Kent College of Law and immediately entered private practice as Chicago’s first openly gay attorney. Virtually overnight his practice grew to include many of that city’s gay bars, organizations and businesses.
CHAPTER ONE Monday The digital clock on my Proctor and Gamble automatic coffee maker flipped to 06:00.00. A dribble of thick black goo dropped down into the glass pot. In seconds a stream of steaming hot liquid caffeine followed suit. Upstairs, in my bedroom, at precisely the same time, my alarm went off, jolting my eyes open and my consciousness back to reality, whatever that reality was. I hate those first few seconds when you wake up. My head hurts, my eyes burn and my brain is foggy. I blink. I blink again. I blink a third time and throw the sheet off my naked body. It's wet with my sweat and I relish the cool air as it dries my skin. Careful not to move my body, I twist my neck and turn my head to the right. I blink again. As expected, a body-sized lump of blankets lays half a bed away. It rises and falls in a breath like rhythm betraying the fact that life exists beneath. Oh God, I think, it's my boyfriend. Careful not to disturb his slumber I slip my legs over the edge of the mattress and slide my body smoothly from the bed. Standing, I blink again and begin to peruse the room. A single thought fills my brain. We're rich. Real wealth can't be created. Oh you can buy a lot of expensive things, but without the experience of having lived a wealthy life, things alone won't make you wealthy. You can fill your life with expensive things, even tasteful things, but you can't buy real wealth. Now, as I looked around the room, our room, I made mental note of the expensive things I saw. There were crystal based lamps perched on mahogany night-stands to either side of the huge king sized bed. An oriental print screen stood hiding the matching mahogany dressing table across the more than impressively large room. On the floor, near the foot of the bed, a silk sheet lay crumpled. It had to have a six hundred thread count, and it was monogrammed. Lying on top of the sheet, almost hidden in its folds, was an empty Waterford crystal goblet. A bottle of Dom Perion lay next to it, spilt and staining the sheet. I found another empty bottle on the floor in front of the nightstand and a third near the foot of the bed. These two were lesser brands, though still expensive. "Damn, we must have been drinking last night," I thought to myself as I began to shuffle across the rich oriental carpeting which covered that impressively large floor. I find myself headed for the bathroom, its place and purpose betrayed by Italian marble tile
