I work with Arthur at Chase Bank. We've known each other for five years. We're both married and in our mid thirties. Neither of us have any children. "Nothing like a cold beer and good company to go with dinner." "And, while we're eating we can talk about that new system we're having installed next week." Arthur said, taking me by my arm. "Oh shit, come on Arthur, let's not talk shop." I said with a mock grimace as he walked me toward the dinner table. While we chowed down on chicken with broccoli, fried rice, wanton soup, and our beers Arthur and I summarized what we had talked about in the recent meetings at work concerning the new computer system that was being installed in our department at the bank. We both agreed that it sounded great and should increase productivity dramatically. When dinner was over I suggested we watch some television in the living room. Arthur carried coffee table and sat down on the couch. "Listen, make yourself comfortable." I said to him. "I'm just going to give Laura a call to see how she is. Turn on the TV, take your shoes off, relax..." I trotted to the kitchen where the phone was as Arthur picked up the remote control and flicked on the television to CNN. The business report was on...Arthur's favorite thing to watch. The TV on, Arthur loosened his tie a little more, slipped his black slip-on wing tips off his feet and stretched out on the couch, his feet dangling off the end of it. He opened his second beer and sipped it as I spoke to my wife.
