WATER - Essence of Life
SOUND - The Creative Impulse
IMAGES - How We Perceive Life
These three ’elements,’ which we experience as very different ’levels of vibration,’ are perhaps the most omnipresent, yet least understood influences on earth! Virtually all of the world’s creation myths describe the formation of the primordial universe as a gradual solidification from a liquid state under the auspices of sound... the firmament manifesting as the Word of God, Nada Brahma, the world is sound... a world sung into being. Through our contemporary, scientific lens, we now conceive of all form as resonance fields--structure, as sound coalescing into matter.
In this collection of beautiful and awe-inspiring images, photographer and researcher, Alexander Lauterwasser, sheds new light on the famous sand figures of German acoustician, Ernst F.F.Chladni, which fascinated Napoleon at the turn of the 19th Century, and the Cymatic sound forms created in the 1950’s and ’60’s by Swiss scientist, Dr. Hans Jenny--creating a new scientific art form for the 21st Century.
Projecting audible sound frequencies into small samples of water, delicate harmonic patterns emerge, whose structures mirror those found throughout the natural world--from single-celled sea creatures to the formation of galaxies. Using acoustical and optical equipment, the author has penetrated the invisible world of vibration’s subtle influences to reveal the universality underlying the multiplicity of form and functions. Drawing upon classical literature and the world’s Wisdom Traditions, he has made these images comprehensible and relevant to all who wish to listen deeply to the mysterious worlds within.

Hardcover. Condition: new. Hardcover. Inspired by the work of Ernst Chladni and Hans Jenny in cymatics, Alexander Lauterwasser has produced a book of stunning imagery showing the effects of sound in water. In the eighteenth century, Chladni developed the technique of drawing a violin bow across a metal plate of sand and observing the patterns that formed. In this book, Lauterwasser extends the idea to more complex and moving sounds in water, ranging from pure sine waves to music by Beethoven, Stockhausen and overtone chanting. The results have been beautifully photographed and provide remarkable insights into natural patterns in our world. A book of stunning imagery showing the effects of sound in water.
