Synopsis

Construction Management Excellence spells out 3 unique business models in detail. Contractors can use these models to eliminate senseless, random acts of management. The Business Product model, the Flow-of-Work model, and Performance Groups models each do their part in creating a sure-fire business advantage. Gene Fessenbecker has been teaching accredited self-study courses and writing books about the business of construction contracting for more than eight years. He founded the Construction Contracting Academy in 1991 as the only institution that focuses on the business of construction contracting. Gene brings his long experience of running his own construction contracting business and managing other contracting companies to bear in this powerful book. This new book builds on the success of his highly and widely acclaimed 15 volume Advantage Contractor(tm) Business Success Series reference set by adding a book focused on construction business management.

About the Author

Gene Fessenbecker is President of the Construction Contracting Academy, Inc. a company he founded in 1991 to provide education, training and consulting on the business of construction contracting. He directed the writing and publishing of 13 accredited self-study courses for the Oregon Contractor Education Program, authored the 15-volume Advantage Contractor(tm) Business Success Series reference set, and the new Construction Management Excellence book.

Fessenbecker started in construction as a framing contractor in the early 70's. He became a general contractor specializing in remodeling and custom home building. He has also worked as manager of construction company operations, including one case managing the weatherization of residences under Bonniville Power Administration guidelines, and another founding and managing a full service insulation subcontracting company for investors.

Reviews

Fessenbecker heads up the Construction Contracting Academy in Eugene, Oregon, which he founded in 1991. The academy offers accredited self-study courses for new contractors to meet Oregon's requirement of 16 hours of education in contracting law and business practices. Fessenbecker is already the author of 15 volumes that make up the Advantage Contractor Success series, published in 1998. Here, he consolidates key information from that multivolume set into a comprehensive guide for setting up and running an independent contracting business. Fessenbecker details the nine elements of his business product model, builds a flow-of-work model to show how a sales lead becomes a successfully completed project, and demonstrates how to set up quality production groups. Contractors hoping to take advantage of the building boom in many parts of the country will benefit from Fessenbecker's expert guidance. David Rouse
