The poems in BUS RIDE TO A BLUE MOVIE, Anne-Marie Levine's second collection, are intensely personal yet very much of this world. Whether she is exploring the dark inner landscape of dreams, reporting the news of the day, or immersed in the panorama of everyday life, she always imparts a sense of the universal to the personal, the personal to the universal. Although her subjects are often dark, dire, or indecorous, she approaches them with a quirkiness and charm that infuses her poetry with a wit and irony that catches the audience off guard and often leaves them laughing.
