Faith Smedley is dying of cancer. Over the course of 15 months spanning 1968-69, the elderly but still active woman struggles to deal with her mortality and the pain of leaving her family. Her strong Quaker faith and a retreat to a mountain cabin sustain her. As she traces her family history through old papers and diaries, Faith connects with an earlier generation of Quaker activists, propelling her to speak out about social injustice and white privilege in her mountain community.
