Dr. Richard A. Sauers, a native of Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, received his B.A. in history from Susquehanna University, and both his M.A. and Ph.D. in history from The Pennsylvania State University. He is the author of more than sixteen books, including: The Gettsyburg Campaign bibliography (1982), A Caspian Sea of Ink: The Meadesickles Controversy (1989), the two-volume Advance the Colors! Pennsylvania Civil War Battleflags (1987-1991, A Succession of Honorable Victories: The Burnside Expedition in North Carolina (1966), Pennsylvania in the Spanish-American War: A Commemorative Look Back (1998), and How to Do Civil War Research (2000). He and his family reside in Wisconsin, where he is the executive director of a three-site museum system.
Civil War Author/Historian - Patrick A. Schroeder was born January 1, 1968, at Fort Belvoir, VA. Patrick attended Stuarts Draft High School in Augusta County, VA. In the spring of 1990, he graduated Cum Laude with a B.S. in Historical Park Administration from Shepherd College, Shepherdstown, WV. He has a M.A. in Civil War History from Virginia Tech. From the summer of 1986- 1993, Patrick worked as a seasonal living history interpreter at Appomattox Court House National Historical Park. In 1993, he wrote Thirty Myths About Lee's Surrender, which is currently in its eigth printing. The following year, Patrick married Maria Ann Dorsett. From 1994-1999, he was employed at Red Hill, the Patrick Henry National Memorial. Patrick has written and/or published fourteen Civil War titles including: More Myths About Lee's Surrender, The Confederate Cemetery At Appomattox, Civil War Soldier Life: In Camp and Battle, The Fighting Quakers, Tar Heels, A Duryee Zouave, Recollections and Reminiscences of Old Appomattox County and Its People, We Came To Fight, Campaigns of the 146th New York, The Bloody 85th, The Highest Praise of Gallantry & Bucktails: A Photographic History. Patrick & Maria reside in Daleville, VA, where he is an independent researcher, historian, and writer. During the summer months, Patrick performs living history programs at Appomattox portraying Corporal Robert Fields and Appomattox County clerk, George Peers-during an evening walking tour.
