Operating on the premise that good body building requires good nutrition, chef and nutritional consultant John Romano has compiled a collection of high-protein, high-in-complex-calories recipes. Body builders and body builder wannabes will be pleased with the scope and variety of the recipe collection. But here's the surprise: so will everybody else. The recipes are surprisingly good, and are truly low in fat and reasonably low in sugar. What's not to like about crab and corn chowder, cioppino, salad with lemon-garlic dressing, grilled zucchini and eggplant, and pasta with red pepper and basil? Calorie, carbohydrate, protein and fat counts are provided as well. For example, the recipe for wheat berry breakfast pudding calls for cooked wheat berries, unflavored gelatin, cottage cheese, 10 packets of sugar substitute, nonfat milk, and seasoning and spices. The book is well designed and handsomely illustrated. It contains a number of useful informational segments on kitchen equipment and cooking techniques as well. Its one downside - and it's a small one - is that cooking of this type usually requires a good bit of time. Muscle Meals should be on the short list for anyone looking for an integrated body building and fitness program -- From Independent Publisher
