This is the second volume of two volumes. It contains fifty-two stories of people and events on the "other coast" of San Francisco Bay, from the early 1850's to the 1950's. These stories first appeared in Nilda Rego's regular weekly history column in the Contra Costa Times. Ms. Rego is still writing the column from her home in Moraga, CA. While both volumes can stand alone we encourage you to read both.

Nilda Rego, a newspaper reporter for most of her life, was born and raised in Berkeley, CA. She graduated from the University of California with a BA in Journalism. She has covered everything from the Society page to the police blotter. She joined the Lesher newspaper family in 1969, and began writing the history column Days Gone By, in 1987. In 1991 she retired from the reporter's life but continued to produce her fascinating gems of history every week. She and husband Dan raised 6 children and are now the revered grandparents of several grandchildren. Most of Nilda's stories were researched in the Contra Costa County History Center, a primary source archive. She can still be found there once every week or so digging for new unknown tales.
