He includes the city's geography, explaining how the rivers and streams served as the original grid for its layout. Also covered are the cultures from its original settling in 1718, that shaped the city, including Native Americans, Spanish, German, Hispanic, and Anglo. A chapter on the Alamo and another on other important battles lend a sense of the importance this city has played for governments throughout the years. Jennings sets the stage for current visitors with recent developments in the city's culture, business, and tourist industry.
