Frank Jan van Dijk was born in the Netherlands. He graduated from Utrecht University in 1988. He has worked for the Ministry of Education and is now a professor at Utrecht University. The research for Jahmaica was conducted between 1988 and 1993 while he was attached to the Department of Cultural Anthropology at Utrecht University.
