Work Design: Industrial Ergonomics, Fifth Edition, gives readers the tools they need to achieve work design that is ergonomically effective while remaining economically feasible. Whether studying work design/ergonomics in a college classroom, preparing for the BCPE certification exam, or working as a professional in the field, readers can depend on this text to provide them with the accurate, up-to-date information they need.
Written by engineers for engineers, Work Design's central goal is to provide clear, useful guidelines supported by research, science, and practice--guidelines that permit today's designers to "stand on the shoulders of those who have gone before." This edition provides comprehensive coverage of the work design process, including such topics as occurrence sampling, cumulative trauma, macro ergonomics, error reduction, manual material handling, and temporal ergonomics.
Work Design offers an explicit organization, an engaging, conversational style, and clear explanations. The book's 500 plus charts and graphics dynamically illustrate important concepts and principles, and its extensive references give readers confidence in the text.
About the new edition:
Work Design is now in its fifth edition, ensuring that the material has been tested and revised for clarity and accuracy. In addition, this thoroughly updated new edition includes:
1. An added chapter on temporal ergonomics, consolidating and integrating information on work and rest.
2. Additional information on the justification of ergonomics, enabling readers to understand and demonstrate the desirability of industrial applications of ergonomics.
3. Ergonomic web sites included in relevant chapters for further research and discussion.
4. An accompanying software program, ERGO 2000, providing easy access to over 75 ergonomic tools such as NIOSH lifting, RULA, and anthropometric databases, and numerous ergonomics forms. Instructors can use the program for student exercises and professionals will find it useful for performing on-the-job tasks.
Work Design is
1. A single source for ergonomics and work measurement. Includes chapters on safety, toxicology, error reduction, and temporal ergonomics in addition to standard ergonomics chapters
2. Easy to read and understand
3. Recommended by the BCPE to assist applicants in their preparation for the three-section BCPE examination
