Two-Man Stick is a dramatic story of smokejumping in the 1950's told by one who was there. Bud Filler brings back those exciting early days of aerial fire suppression, and tells what it's like to step out of an airplane with a backpack filled with flimsy silk, and nothing below but a hillside of rocks and a raging wildfire.

About the Author:
Bud Filler earned degrees in forestry from Pennsylvania State University and the University of British Columbia, then served as an officer in the U.S. Army 9th Infantry Division. He returned to Idaho to cut logs along the Clearwater River, and now is the co-owner of Filler-King Company, a manufacturer of structural wood products, and Jump Creek Lumber Company. He and his wife, Ellie, live in Boise, Idaho.
Review:
"Bud Filler is a fine writer, and he tells the smokejumper story as it was and still is: the most adventurous job in America. This is a superb book." -- Clay Morgan, former smokejumper and author of Santiago and the Drinking Party

"Two-Man Stick is a well-written page-turner on a fascinating subject. Bud Filler has made the business of smokejumping come alive with real people, colorful and sensitive descriptions and a trained woodsman's knowledge of the complex operation of a forest ecosystem. What comes through most clearly is Bud's enormous and unmistakable love for our national heritage of public lands and for those who risk their lives to protect them." -- Cecil D. Andrus, former governor of Idaho

"Two-Man Stick is about the go-to-hell years of being a smokejumper in the fifties. This book goes beyond exciting--it's a great tribute to the McCall jumpers." -- Tom Kovalicky, Nez Perce Forest Supervisor, retired.
