Reviews
Grade 1-2-Adaptations designed to encourage parents and children to read together. In both books, the left page of text is designated for adults to read while the shorter three-to-four lines on the right feature vocabulary for beginning readers. In the Andersen tale, the children's pages have been set to rhyme-most of the time. Sometimes the rhymes are exact, and at other times forced, interrupting the flow of the story. The full-color illustrations, though serviceable, feature huge smiles on the characters' faces and so much activity in each frame that the story gets lost. In Peter Rabbit, the excellent reproductions of Beatrix Potter's original illustrations, which have been enlarged without losing any of their charming detail, make this adaptation work better.
