Xeric Award-winning Slowpoke: Café Pompous collects the first two years of Jen Sorensen’s alternative newsweekly strip, Slowpoke. Jam-packed with gags, Slowpoke tackles the absurdities of present-day American life with rib-tickling gusto. Uptight Mr. Perkins, jaded Little Gus, and horny Drooly Julie provide a witty commentary on the politics and culture of our times.

Jen Sorensen is the creator of Slowpoke, a weekly comic strip that appears in several alternative newspapers throughout the US, for which she was nominated for the Friends of Lulu Kimberly Yale Award for Best New Talent. Slowpoke, which serves up political and social commentary with an absurdist twist, grew out of a popular daily strip she drew while a student at the University of Virginia. Jen was recently awarded a Xeric Grant to publish her latest cartoon collection, "Slowpoke: Cafe Pompous." Jen Sorensen's work has also appeared in several other publications, including The Big Book of the '70s (DC/Paradox Press), Action Girl Comics, Dignifying Science, Empty Love Stories, the Small Press Expo anthologies, and will be featured alongside such luminaries as Matt Groening and Tom Tomorrow in Ted Rall's upcoming book on alternative political cartoonists. Jen Sorensen lives in Charlottesville VA, where she also does web design.
Jen Sorensen is a nationally-syndicated political cartoonist whose work has appeared in The Progressive, The Nation, Daily Kos, Austin Chronicle, NPR, Ms., Politico, and many other publications. The recipient of a 2013 Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award, she tweets at @JenSorensen
