Squeaky s Farm is the story of Squeaky, our now fifteen-year-old cat, a dearly loved, highly respected family member. After her harrowing early years on city streets, Squeaky chose to spend the rest of her life with us.
She may have been re-thinking that commitment after we flew her to Spain s Extremadura region to live at Lagar La Senora, a dilapidated near-ruin of a stone house at the center of a rustic seventeen-acre farm.

At age five, I was plopped down on a thirty-two acre farm when my family moved to Virginia. We had no indoor plumbing, minimal electricity, and a coal stove for heat. Almost fifty years later, when I saw Lagar La Senora for the first time, I was not concerned about its lack of amenities. I understood the concept of fixer-upper.
An inspirational academic year in Spain before graduating from Mary Baldwin College created the frame around a life devoted to travel, Spanish cuisine, and artisan products. My interests in cooking, wine, olive oil, country wisdom, and writing were inspired by that academic experience.
After college, my jobs were dreams-come-true for a liberal arts major bilingual secretary, manuscript typist, art gallery director, employment with an import company specializing in Spanish wines, and then sole owner of a small olive oil brokerage and distribution company. Along the way, I learned to love cats and to recognize their importance in my life. All these elements entwined my love for Squeaky, Scott, and life lived simply, which led to the writing of Squeaky s Farm.
