During the 1960s and early 1970s, he was renowned in publishing as both an editor and writer. He was on the editorial staffs of "The New Yorker," "Cavalier" (Managing Editor), "Story" (The Editor), and "Time" (Contributing Editor). During that era, George's fiction was twice anthologized in "The Best American Short Stories of 1963" and "1966." His articles on art and politics appeared in "Mademoiselle," "Cosmopolitan" and "The Saturday Evening Post." His poetry was published in "The New Yorker," "Mademoiselle" and "Nadada." He is currently Editor-in-Chief of "Rattapallax."
