Synopsis

"Bernard Bomba is a sensous and accomplished poet--a poet of ecstasy, as in "I Am Sure of This," where his commitment to the natural world, to family, and to the spiritual reality behind the visible world are uniquely and beautifully expressed. Rags and Again Rags is a trove of surprising and vigorously imagined work. Bomba has language under his skin--and his poems will impress and delight readers who care about the fate of poetry in a seriously un poetic world." --Jay Parini, Middlebury College, Author of "Robert Frost: A Life", "House of Days--Poems", and "Some Necessary Angels: Essays on Writing and Politics" "The Poems in Rags and Again Rags spur the mind as they illume the soul. Bernard Bomba amply proves again and again in these fine poems that the lyric voice can sing with intelligence. A very rewarding performance." -- Hilary Masters, Carnegie Mellon University, author of "Clemmons", "Cooper", "Strickland", and "In Montaigne's Tower" "To read Rags and Again Rags is to undertake a delightful yet arduous trek through a mountain wilderness. We stop to grill corn, trout and 'after dark we gaze into the fire, roll the wine of the day in our glasses,' and we know the contentment of having explored and savored some pure, unspoiled poetry. Whether we tramp with him in the wilderness trails or navigate the warrens of dark cities of commerce and politics, Bernard Bomba is the perfect companion. He knowe where he is going, and he wishes us to go with him, poem by poem." -- David Citino, The Ohio State University, author of "The Book of Appassionata", "Broken Symmetry", and "The Discipline: New and Selected Poems"

While attending graduate school, he was the editor of Trail and Timberline - the mountaineering magazine of the Colorado Mountain Club. His poems have been appearing in literary journals since the mid-1970's; most of the poems in Rags were first published in journals, including The American Poetry Review, California Quarterly, Confrontation, The (Ohio) Journal, The Literary Review, Poet and Critic, Southern Poetry Review, Tar River Poetry, Webster Review, West Branch and many others.
