About the Author:
Ranjit S. Sahai is the founder of RAM Corporation based in Dulles, Virginia. RAM is a professional services firm serving State Departments of Transportation. He has significant experience in both Information Technology projects, particularly CAD and GIS, and engineering design projects such as bridges, commercial buildings, waste water structures, tunnels and the like.Ranjit earned a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering and a Masters degree in Structural Engineering from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology in New Delhi, India. He then went on to earn another Masters in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Houston at the Central Campus in Houston, Texas. He was first introduced to CAD in 1987 when he joined Alpha Corporation. All drawing production was done at Alpha on a DEC VAX 750-based Intergraph system running IGDS, MicroStation's precursor. Of course, the original computer hardware has long since been replaced with a Microsoft Windows Server-based network environment.Information technology in general, and CAD in particular, along with GIS, began as a passionate hobby with him and are now a part of his professional life as well. He has written over 200 articles for several computer magazines, including over six dozen MicroStation-related articles in the MicroStation Manager magazine. His MDL Class and MDL Corner columns, that ran from October 1996 through August 1998, and now the Java/MDL Workshop column that started in October 1998, have proved to be the most popular series he has written for the magazine. In addition to writing, Ranjit has also lectured and provided training, either on-site or at Bentley workshops around the country. In his spare time Ranjit dabbles in photography. He also enjoys reading and listening to music.
