Synopsis

Friends over the years, Tony Randall and Michael Mindlin traded jokes, anecdotes and remembrances. continually one-upping each other with tales of show business. Gathered together in this wonderfully entertaining collection is the best of these - beginning with Randall's arrival in New York as a stage struck newcomer, his early bit parts, stage and screen stardom, and his most memorable roles as Mr. Peepers and Felix Unger.

From Publishers Weekly

Randall, one of America's wittiest and most endearing supporting actors makes his literary debut with a disappointing dud. A collection of personal and overheard anecdotes about mostly obscure folks from show business (and an uninspired final chapter featuring his decorated drawings of mock headstones, such as "Heeeeeeeeeere'sJohnny" for the mighty Carson), this trip down memory lane is filled with a slew of "you-kind-of-had-to-be-there" endings, instead of delivered punchlines. Co-written by Mindlin, a show-biz pal of the actor who has worked in publicity and production, this volume of 10-second recollections contains a few brief shining moments, but even those pale in comparison to the brilliant tales that Randall spins when he is in front of a camera on late-night talk shows. From Library Journal

Actor Randall, also noted as a highly entertaining storyteller, has compiled his best show business stories with the help of Mindlin, a close friend and also a raconteur. Unlike David Niven's The Moon's a Balloon (LJ 3/15/72), Randall makes no effort at autobiography except in passing comments. The chapter headings group stories in general categories, such as touring stories, fans, practical jokes, etc. The tales are simply strung together, each one funnier than the last. The stories are often gossipy, sometimes scandalous, and always hilarious. The lack of continuity may bother some readers, but this is a great book for browsing. Definitely a laugh a minute.
