As a Binge/Compulsive Eater your eating behaviors "work" for you in a variety of ways. Eating serves as an antidote to the feelings of self-hate, guilt, stress, anxiety, boredom, depression, anger, and so on. Thus, it is important that you understand the function of food behavior in your life, and the need to develop new skills and abilities in order to be able to give up bingeing as a coping mechanism.

You are not crazy or stupid, but you have an eating problem. You have an eating problem because, on some level, it works for you - by reducing tension and anxiety, extinguishing feelings you can't stand (including the offshoots of shame, self-hatred, depression, boredom, anger, and anxiety), getting you much-needed attention, removing you from an uncomfortable situation, and by bingeing you can temporarily avoid feeling chaotic or out-of-control.

Therefore, let's not treat this syndrome as though it was some disgusting thing to be gotten rid of. You will need to develop new skills and abilities that will enable you to solve the problems you're now using your Binge/Compulsive Eating to address. And this will take time.
