Synopsis
This important book brings together for the first time, in French and English, the selected journals and letters of La Vrendrye and others who aided the great explorer in his quest to find a route to the Pacific.Edited by Prof. Denis Combet, these bilingual texts are accompanied by contemporary maps and drawings, as well as original art by noted painter Ren Lantier. The journals take us from the calm settlement of New France into the wild unexplored territories of western Canada in the early 18th century. About the Author
Born in Marseille, France in 1955, Professor Denis Combet holds a doctorate from the Universit de Nancy II. Since arriving in Canada in 1975, he has taught at the University of Manitoba, the Collge universitaire de Saint—Boniface and the University of Victoria. He is currently a professor at Brandon University.

Combet, Denis IN SEARCH OF THE WESTERN SEA: SELECTED JOURNALS OF LA VERENDYRE Winnipeg, MB: Great Plains Publications 2001 SIGNED & INSCRIBED NF/VG 191pp. 4to. Dust jacket does show shelf wear with puncture marks along the bottom of the spine. Bottom of spine shows water damage on the inside with a few more spots along the bottom edge. Front flap is price clipped. Blue cloth boards show no staining with gilt titling along the spine. Edges show light wear and bumping and there are two small puncture marks found on both sides at the bottom of the spine. Authors signature and inscription with a date can be found on the half title page. Text is in both French and English and is clean and square throughout. Pictures are bright and binding has loosened but remains firm throughout. Overall book has lasted very well and remains in near fine condition. *This book is oversized and will require extra shipping charges.*. Signed and Inscribed by Author. Seller Inventory # 021785
