Based on a true story, this book tells the story of Nanoose, the fortunate whale that was able to taste freedom again, thanks to the brave efforts of Captain Mike and Captain Jim..In September of 1994, an ususual rescue took place in the chilly waters off Telegraph Cove, a tiny, picturesque village perched on Vancouver Island's north coast. It was not stranded hikers or fishermen in distress who needed help, but a large humpback whale, which had become hopelessly entangled in a rope that had fallen from a fishing boat.Mary Borrowman and Chloe O'Loughlin tell the story of how the resident community of whale watchers sprang into action, and through the brave actions of two skippers, Captain Mike and Captain Jim, gave the whale its freedom.Based on a true story, The Rescue of Nanoose features delightful full-colour illustrations by Jacqueline Wang and will appeal to children of all ages.
