Born in Vancouver in 1933, Don Benson was a logger and sports reporter before joining a B.C. Telephone Company line gang in 1955, in an era when poles were erected using muscle power, and bare wire was still being strung down country back roads. Don Benson is an award-winning journalist and Poet Laureate for the City of New Westminster.
Like in the Yukon verse of Robert Service, the stories grow larger along with the voices. -- Bob Stall, Vancouver Province, June 18, 1991
