Answers questions such as Why do onions make you cry? Why do ice cubes crack? and other inquiries by following a little child's adventures in the kitchen, providing parents with knowledge regarding the correct responses, in a colorfully illustrated introduction to science.

K-Gr 2--A mediocre book about science in the kitchen. Each two-page spread asks a different question and is followed by an answer in a brief paragraph. The responses are lacking in scientific fact, leaving many of the explanations unclear and vague. For example, in response to the inquiry, "How does the fridge keep food cold?" readers are told that "special stuff" is pumped through a pipe, the "stuff collects the heat from inside the fridge...then the fridge lets out the heat into the kitchen." This explanation raises more questions than it answers. Further, there is no glossary. The illustrations are bland, monotonous, and, like the text, are somewhat nebulous.
