Why are beavers' teeth orange? Which school is closest to the North Pole? What is a slug's slime made of? Selecting from burning (and sometimes freezing) questions submitted by real Canadian children, Vivien Bowers created this entertaining treasure trove of Canadiana. Tackling questions about Canada's wildlife, geography, and cultures with humor and energy, Bowers presents the answers in an accessible format, with manageable amounts of text, incredible photos, and lighthearted illustrations that make exploring Canada fun. By zeroing in on the information most exciting to them and showing young people how to find more on their own, the book encourages readers to develop and research their own projects and interests.

Vivien Bowers appreciates kids' tireless curiosity, and satisfies it with high-energy non-fiction. With over 20 years of writing experience, she has garnered numerous awards and nominations. She is the author of Crazy About Canada! and That's Very Canadian! She lives in Nelson, BC, where she enjoys escaping to the wilderness to ski, hike, or canoe.
Grade 4-6–An attractive book that was specifically designed around questions sent in by Canadian children. Topics include polar bears, dinosaurs, icebergs, hockey, totem poles, archaeology, and more. Tour guides Vivien and Morton escort readers on a highly visual and graphically appealing journey through some of the lesser-used corridors of the country. Various questions or comments are printed at the tops of the pages, and the guides appear as comic characters who converse throughout the text. The three chapters are grouped around subtopics: Highly Questionable Critters (aspects of wildlife), This Land of Ours (anything geographical, geological, or agricultural), and Explain Yourselves, Canadians! (culture or recreation). The art, a combination of full-color photos and collage illustrations, resembles the layout of a scrapbook. Given the format, the book will be a little tricky to use for research, but it's a perfect book for browsing.–Corrina Austin, Locke's Public School, St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada
