Synopsis

Lt.-Col. Paul Mayer comes from a long line of career military men. His own outstanding career has been spent as an infantry officer in the Canadian Army. In the course of his term of service and later, as a peacekeeping officer, he flirted with disaster a number of times. In this sometimes witty, sometimes sober account, we are treated to Mayer`s adventures at school ("Young Love is a Worm or a Frog or Whatever Pleases My Lady"), a wildly unpredictable visit with his Aunt Helene, a matter of some lost helicopters, a royal tiger hunt in Cambodia, and a few unforgettable visits with Ho Chi Minh. Retired now, Mayer looks back, reflects, and sums up. The reader is the richer for his efforts.
