Wandering Backward, told in a small child s voice, recalls life in small-town Ontario at a time when the innocence of a seven-year-old meets the strife of the adult world, war, crime, cruelty.
Everyday activities give the reader colourful windows to family life in the 1940s as war raged across Europe and cast its shadow on every street in Canada. Bloomsgrove Avenue in Port Hope was no exception. The author, daughter of the former chief of police, tells what it was like growing up on the Avenue in 1944.
