This is the third edition of this dictionary, whose second edition was completely revised and substantially expanded. The second edition of the dictionary was also largely rewritten with the assistance of a team of specialists from all the appropriate fields. The book provides clear and concise definitions of relevant terms in speech pathology, linguistics, phonetics and phonology, psychology and psychiatry, medicine, hearing, electronic devices and microcomputers. It also describes different types of therapy techniques, the use of particular tests to assist in making diagnoses, and the current theories in these fields.

Since dictionaries need to reflect changes in terminology, the text has been revised completely with older terms and older technology systems being removed to make way for new terms and new technology systems.
