A Cheshire farmer born and bred, John Lea was the youngest of a family of four, born on a small tenanted farm in Mid-Cheshire in 1935. As he grew up he never wished to be anything other than a farmer. Struck down by polio at the age of twenty, which left him disabled, he continued to pursue his dream, becoming a successful farmer and a representative on the Council of the National Farmers Union. The stories in this book tell of tough times in the 1920s and 1930s, the exciting and profitable war years and above all his love of his life and the countryside in which he made his home.
