There are still few tourists although the number is steadily increasing. Each visitor is therefore even more of an ambassador for his own country than is true elsewhere. Eritrea does not offer the best diving, or the best food, or top class hotels, or particularly inspiring archaeological sites. That it has all of these, of whatever standard, is surprising enough for most visitors. But best of all are the people. The road ahead may be fraught with difficulties, but these will be more easily negotiated now there is peace, and good relations with the new, government in neighbouring Ethiopia. Those who go now to see Eritrea will have a marvellous opportunity to watch and experience the growth of a new nation.
