Hannah Reidy is a former schoolteacher who specialized in children's literature. Clare Mackie is an artist and printmaker and is the illustrator of Michael Rosen's Book of Nonsense Poetry.

Capers attempts to explain prepositions by showing a group of creatures moving in various directions, while Contrasts offers examples of opposites. Both texts are poorly written and neither succeeds as a story. Featuring strange, bug-eyed creatures, the cartoon illustrations are unappealing. For introducing opposites, stick with standbys like Kate Duke's Guinea Pigs Far and Near (Dutton, 1989) and Ann Lenssen's A Rainbow Balloon (Dutton, 1992).
