Synopsis
Night and darkness are fugitive in a world of continuous illumination. Night, the region of mystery, of inner and outer space, of dreams, transformation and refuge from the quotidian, was exalted by the romantics. The poems in Night Calling are inspired by the night; its moods and companions hover at the edges – from midnight Venice to the choreography of the funeral cortège, from abandoned Czernobyl to the winter solstice. Autumn and winter are the chosen seasons, falling cadence the preferred mode.

About the Author
Judy Gahagan has worked as an academic psychologist, teacher, journalist and ballet school pianist. She has also been a tutor in Psychology and Social Sciences for the Open University in Rome and is currently a tutor for The Poetry School, London. Judy’s published two poetry pamphlets: Ghosting The Cities and When The Whole Mood Changed (Artemis); three full collections: Crossing The No-Man’s Land (Flambard), Night Calling (Enitharmon); The Secret Frontiers (Enitharmon); and a collection of short stories Did Gustav Mahler Ski? (New Directions, New York).
