When a young French author is invited to Egypt as a guest of Cairo's French Embassy, he anticipates a week of literary discussions and official dinners. He certainly does not foresee the extraordinary events that will lead to murder. His fellow author on the trip, Martin Millet, offends Islamic sensibilities with his views on art and literature, and worse: he searches obsessively for an Egyptian woman willing to have sex with him. When Millet disappears, his friend's worst fears are realised, and he is plunged into an Egypt very different from the one he imagined.
Florian Zeller is arguably France's most famous 26-year-old. "A book about the dialectic of the manipulated and the manipulator, Fascination of Evil is a surprising reflection on the power of words. With this novel Zeller confirms his place among the best authors of his generation." Nicolas d'Estienne d'Orve, Le Spectacle du Monde "The book is cunning, in a diabolical sense, the construction is perfect...it makes you believe in the future of writing..." Patrick Poivre d'Arvor Marie France "A courageous novel, sensual, and subtle, that reflects on the drifting morals of our societies..." Maxime Romain La Marseillaise"

Paperback. Condition: Fine. 1st. 153 pages; 20 cm. Translated from the French. Tight, clean copy. First edition thus. "When the narrator receives an invitation to visit Egypt as the guest of the French Embassy in Cairo, he anticipates a boring week of literary discussions and official dinners. From the start, his fellow author - Martin Millet - seems determined to stir up the tensions that underlie the politeness of Egyptian society. He offends Islamic sensibilities with his views on art and the novel, and worse: his entire stay degenerates into an obsessive search for an Egyptian woman willing to have sex with him. The atmosphere is one of mutual mistrust, bordering on open dislike, not just between East and West, but also between the two authors. As the narrator finds himself dragged ever deeper into Millet's obsessions, he begins not only to fear for his own and Millet's safety, but for the future of Western civilisation. Millet disappears, and the narrator inevitably fears the worst." - Publisher. Size: 8vo. Seller Inventory # 108962
