Offering a tantalizing glimpse at the underbelly of rock 'n' roll, this collection revisits a dangerous, exciting time when rockabilly mutated with punk to form . . . psychobilly! Deathrow was the world's only long running psychobilly fanzine, and this collection features all the rare and collectable original issues. The zine grew into a properly printed magazine with a circulation in excess of 5,000 copies per issue. Packed with articles on bands such as The Meteors, The Frantic Flintstones, The Sharks, Frenzy, Batmobile, Demented Are Go, this is a valuable reference of events, bands, and stories for those too young to have experienced the European psychobilly scene in its heyday and a nostalgic reminder for those who were a part of it—and survived! If you were or still are a psychobilly, this book is essential reading.

Alan Wilson started Deathrow in 1993. An independent record producer specializing in rockabilly and psychobilly, owner of Department X Music Publishing, founder of Western Star Recording Company, songwriter, and engineer, he is best known as a founding member of neo-rockabilly band The Sharks.
This volume reproduces all 38 issues of Deathrow Database, a quarterly fanzine created, published and generally written by recording artist and producer Wilson, from the early 1990s to 2000. The magazine covered the heavily tattooed, vertically-quaffed set that combined rockabilly, punk and the occasional slap bass to create the amped-up, swing-and-mosh psychobilly sound. The magazine's growth from a typewritten, photocopied rag produced in Wilson's home to a (relatively) clean, glossy magazine is interesting in itself, and does, in fact, provide "a fascinating glimpse into the underbelly of Rock n Roll," as Wilson claims in his introduction. A member of psychobilly pioneers The Sharks, Wilson has an insider's view of the scene and access to many performers; included are often lengthy interviews with artists such as Tim Worman, Darrel Higham, Dave Sisson, Jeroen Haamers, The Highliners and dozens more. With the exception of a few introductory paragraphs, all the material in the book is taken directly from Deathrow Database, which, at its peak, sold about 5000 copies per issue; as such, the informal, inclusive, blunt prose will make readers feel in on the scene. B/w photos throughout.
